After the U.S.'s 50% tariffs landed, Ottawa is matching them exactly — on an equally broad list of American goods.

Canada has published its full list of countermeasures against the United States, set to take effect September 8. Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed the response matches the incoming U.S. Section 338 tariffs dollar for dollar, covering $27.6 billion in American goods — the same value the U.S.'s own 50% tariffs apply to on the Canadian side.

What's on the list

The government's published list covers steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics among other categories. Ottawa says the extended negotiation with Washington failed to produce a fair outcome, with the government stating the concessions requested of Canada would have undermined the interests of workers and businesses.
