Canada's labour market picked up in the second quarter of 2026 after a soft start to the year, according to Indeed's Hiring Lab, with Labour Force Survey employment jumping in May and edging higher again in June, offsetting an earlier first-quarter drop.

A plateau, not a rebound

Canadian job postings on Indeed had slipped 4.6% since the start of the year as of early July, but were roughly flat compared to a year earlier. Statistics Canada's separate Job Vacancy and Wage Survey showed a similar pattern — weaker than pre-pandemic levels, but sending a consistent signal that hiring demand has stabilized rather than continuing to erode.
