The Brampton store that opened the chain's first Canadian location in 1984 shut its doors this month amid ongoing restructuring.

The first Toys "R" Us store to open in Canada — on West Drive in Brampton, Ontario — permanently closed on July 12 after more than four decades in business. The store opened in 1984 as the chain's first Canadian location.

Part of a bigger restructuring

The closure comes as Toys "R" Us Canada continues restructuring after filing for creditor protection earlier this year. Some stores are expected to stay open under new ownership, but the historic Brampton flagship was not among them.
